Studio update &a giveaway!Studio update &a giveaway!

The fall issue of Cloth Paper Scissors Studios is now available for pre-order!

(cover image by Debbie Patterson)

This issue has part 2 of my 4 part series on building my custom studio and it’s all about flooring choices.  Can you guess what I’ll be using for the floor in my studio?  Will it be tile, bamboo, hardwood, carpet, cork or vinyl? You’ll have to read the article to find out.  Guess right  (or order the magazine and find out for sure) and I’ll put your name into a draw to win something from my Etsy shop!  Just leave a comment on this blog post with what you think (or know) what my choice for flooring is between now and 10/1/10.   I’ll pull a name from all the entries with the correct guess on 10/2/10.   Good luck!

And speaking of studios –hubby has made some terrific progress in the last couple of weeks:

Most of the framing is done except for the front wall of my studio which will get done in the next few days.  The skylights have been framed and the center wall separating the two second floor sections has come down and the temporary supports holding the roof up while that was being done are ready to come down.  We should be ready to start enclosing the structure by next week!

  • Good luck with your fantastic studio!
I am guessing you will go for the environmentally save bamboo and cork.

  • Hi Sue can’t wait to see the finished studio ! you are so lucky ! i think cork for the flooring my friend has cork in her kitchen and it looks amazing !

  • Jeannie

Your studio is going to be fantastic! Have you thought about using more than one flooring? An area of tile for your wet work and then cork for the other areas. I love bamboo,so that is what I think I would put in my dream studio.;)

  • Deanna

All great options…but I’m going with CORK!

  • RobinG

    Cork sounds wonderful!

  • I am going to guess cork. How fortunate you are to have such a great studio!

  • Hi,Sue,
Well,I was wrong last time –boo hoo.
I do know now that your flooring will be cork. Am I a mind-reader or what? lol
    Regards,
    Bobbie

Looking at the choice,I’m a great fan of vinyl –it’s the most forgiving of surfaces, washable, soft and warm on the feet, huge range of looks, not overly expensive to replace if you want a change and most important, fragile things usually bounce if you drop them! Now I’ll have to go and order the magazine to find out –can’t wait to see what you really chose!
Looking forward to seeing pictures of the finished studio!

  • I’m thinking that you might need a combination of flooring. Tile for the wet area (even if it’s a small section) for easy wipeup of the drips and dyes. On the dry area I would go with whichever floor is easiest on the back. Probably cork, but hardwood could be good as well if it had some type of cushy sub-flooring. Of course,I don’t know if that is possible, but one can always dream.

I have to go with bamboo. Ecologically sound, durable, cushyfeetfriendly…. How totally cool that you get to make all your choices from scratch!

  • Carol

    I vote for bamboo

  • Tesla

    I’m voting for bamboo.

  • Shelley C

Haven’t read the article, but will go with someone else’s guess about cork. I think tile would be too hard to stand on for long periods, and hardwood would have been my second guess…so durable and pretty and great for resale purposes. How exciting to have such a room allocated for your passion.

  • Bamboo flooring! (Okay, maybe that’s MY dream floor..)

  • Diana

    Hmmmmmm….. I’m guessing hardwood?

  • soren

    cork!
    maybe.
    :)

  • Carol C

I’m voting for cork. It sounds like the best all around choice. I’ll bet you can’t wait until your studio is done.

  • Marcia W.

Think you may change your mind from tile to bamboo…and go green sustainable bamboo flooring.

  • Wow,that’s really coming along. It’s so very exciting.

  • Sue,my guess is tile because of all the paints, dyes &“stuff”(techy term) you use for your gorgeous books &fabrics.
BTW,I purchased your book a few weeks ago,&I LOVE it. I’ve learned soo much.
    Warm regards,
    Bobbie

If the studio is your dream-come-true and if you stick to your wish list from the last STUDIOS-Issue,you are going with tile.

  • Linda

Hi Sue,this is looking marvellous, bet you can’t wait. I’m guessing cork flooring, simple reason,I have it myself in ‘my room’[as opposed to studio.....LOL],and I love it.

  • Sue,your studio is coming along so nicely,I bet you get the butterflies in your tummy every time you look at it. Can’t wait to see the progress in the next issue of Studios!

  • Sandy Jandik

Vinyl might not be as exciting as some, but it cleans up nicely. Great progress.

  • I’ll be looking for the magazine but I’m thinking cork. If I find out I’m wrong I’ll be back to change my answer. Good for you,the magazine and your hubby!

  • Exciting…my guess is bamboo

  • It’s just too exciting! I know that cork and bamboo are the cool answers but if it were my studio, the answer would be vinyl.

  • I’m voting for cork too –for no particular reason other than that’s what *I* would want in my dream studio! Can’t wait to pick up the magazine and read what you decided. I’ll bet you are champing at the bit to get yours DONE so you can play in it.

  • WOW Sue! Your studio is really coming along…you must be getting really excited now!

  • Marie

Sue,what amazing progress you’re making. I’ll bet you’re excited. I’m guessing you’ll put in either bamboo or cork. Both are environmentally sound, and I know you’re conscious about those kinds of things. Do I need to be more specific?
    Good luck.

  • If it was my studio I would go with cork. I’ve read some great reports on cork and how it is very durable and great for standing.
