who said computers make life easier?who said computers make life easier?

Because I’ll tell you,it hasn’t felt like that lately!  My laptop died expectantly last week.   I was in the middle of doing something when some of the keys stopped working, the screen went blank and it started emitting a high pitched beep and then nothing.   So I had to get a new one which was easy enough but what wasn’t easy was trying to re-load all my software most of which is incompatible with Microsoft Vista so that meant hunting for updated drivers and upgrades and so on and so on and then I lost my internet connection for a couple of days.  But the good news is that I’m back up and running!

So first let me apologize to all of you who left comments on my previous post who I did not respond to.  In and in the midst of all the computer chaos all my emails went unanswered so I apologize for that.

I did manage a little studio time in the last week or so.  I had picked up some small 6″square canvas’the last time I was in the craft store and decided to try to apply my textured silk technique to them…

and a closeup:

These look great hanging on the wall.  They’re so textured that the make you want to reach out and touch them.  I might try doing a few of these on a larger canvas in different colors.  I think they’d look great hung together as a series of color explorations.

and it’s been a long time since I did any book making so I put together a couple of new hardcover books…

These books along with several other new ones are in my etsy shop here.

  • Beautiful books &congratulations on your exciting news –sounds fantastic.

These look great Sue. Sorry to hear about your computer issues. Mine just doesn’t have enough grunt these days, and we really need an upgrade, but I fear I’m not up to the task of learning to deal with Windows7,after hearing some of the things people are saying. Our satellite internet connection is pretty ordinary too. One has to be patient [or just plain stupid] to sit here waiting for it at times. But,when I see your wonderful creations,I know the wait has been worthwhile. Thank you for always posting something I love.

The books are great as always. The texture on the canvases would be hard not to touch-nice.

  • I understand your computer frustration –my computer died in June and my old Photoshop just isn’t compatible with my new computer. So I’m learning to use a couple other photo programs now.

Your textured silk is absolutely wonderful! All the ways you use it are fabulous –the canvases, books and the vase below is gorgeous! And congratulations on your upcoming course –sounds like a great experience.

  • WOW! You are faster than my ol’dial up. lol Great stuff!

  • I know all too well what you mean about computers and the loss of internet….our phone lines were struck by lightning last week so you don´t want to hear the rest…..but I feel for you …I painted A LOT while everything was quiet and I see you were using your time wisely too…just gorgeous!! Thanks for the inspiration.

  • doesn’t it take forever to re-load your computer with drivers and software!
love the texture on the canvases Sue. as you say, they ask to be touched.

  • I love the canvases, and I think the idea of doing a large-scale piece is excellent (we’re running on parallel tracks these days,I’ve been thinking of doing one more large collage piece on a stretch canvas before life gets so crazy busy!) I will be VERY interested to see what comes of it,if you decide to go that way.

What exactly does the texture feel like? It looks stiff, like you used Paverpol or somesuch, but I know you were saying you’d MistyFused it so is it soft? Does it preserve the hand of the fabric? Have you painted on top of it,or is that dyed fabric?

  • Well you sure made up for lost time! These are fab!
